A poster read: "We build your houses, we grow your food, we raise your children..."

Over half a million people marched in LA against the Anti-Immigrant Laws being discussed in Congress this week. (Read more...)

Coyote Cute

Not ugly, at least not this time. The pilot had to abort take-off on my way back from Albuquerque because there was a Coyote on the runway. I went to the Western Political Science Association's annual meeting last week and was blown away with the quality of research and how amazing the group of professors is. This trip has influenced heavily my decision to pursue a Ph.D. and I think by now it is almost settled, that's what I'm doing next.

I'm sorry for not posting more often, school has been a bit crazy, and now I also have another little project to procrastinate on: www.gpsa.info the new web page of the Graduate Political Science Association at my school. I've been learning some HTML on the go and I think it looks pretty good, I don't want to take all the credit because I've borrowed some templates from Bravenet.com, the site where our page is now at, but the content is all mine.

This friday we'll have elections, and I'm running for president. Who would have thought? Now I'm the greatest nerd. All I'm missing is the glasses. (By the way, I'm leaving a permanent link to the GPSA website below my profile, just in case you wonder what I've been up to. I have some crazy ideas for next semester, I'll keep everyone posted.

Did you hear the one about...

...the former pizza magnate who is building an all-catholic town where counterceptives and abortion are not allowed? I'm not kidding, the former owner of Domino's pizza even built a university, whose students will not be provided with "reproductive health services". Talk about fundamentalism. Get $200 million, buy your own town, make your own rules. Only in America.

Want to learn more? just go to www.AveMaria.com. Yeah, you guessed right. The town is called Ave Maria, and is being built as you read this article in the village of Asisi, in Naples, Florida. That's right here, in the United States of America.

Crazy Neocons, I don't see the difference between this and Islamic Fundamentalism. Perhaps they should also build an Inquisition Building to torture infidels who dare venturing into town. I would like to see the demographics of the area once the project is finished.

Thank You Stat-Counter

Somebody has to be reading this. According to my hit counter I've already had 1015 hits since I installed it! That was about three months ago. That means around 330 hits per month? Somebody has to be reading this.

Summer is Here

At least this time it didn't start until March. But here it is! This past weekend there were already people sunbathing at the pool, and last night I had to turn my A/C on for the first time (After sleeping for two weeks with my windows and my balcony door open) But the temperature is already in the 80's, (that's above 26 Celcius) and that is more than I am willing to put up with. Now, let's wait for next month's electricity bill...

Labrapalabra

It pleased me very much to find an article in my school's newspaper about a literary magazine, produced in Spanish by the Modern Languages Department. It pleased me even more to see it was an online publication, and to make it better, one of the main contributors turned out to be from Colombia. How's your Spanish? Check out Labrapalabra. And if you're feeling brave, they're accepting submissions.
(I'll leave a permanent link below my profile, on the right column. I really loved this site)
